ImageThe whole city looks so romantic and historic that is a great experience to stroll up and down the streets, watching fisherman at the port with the artists, sharing fresh fish with seagulls. The film 'Kingdom of Heaven' was filmed in this city and all city was a film set. There is also a considerable artist community living here, you can see them making drawings of fisherman at the port.

ImageA trip to the south of Essaouria, to Tamanar would be a great day out to see Argan trees on the way which can only be found in Morocco. There are always goats on them. Unfortunately goats eat up and dry the trees and shepherds encourage that because the tourists stop to take pictures. Of course the tourists will be charged heavily for this photo. Many visitors do not know the consequence of this behavior and watch goats destroy beautiful Argan trees.

ImageWandering the streets of Essaouira feels incredibly relaxed after the intensity of the Marrakech souks. Even though there is so much more to choose from in Marrakech, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by so many choices and intimidated if bargaining is not your game. So you will feel incredibly fortunate to stumble upon hidden treasure. Tilila is a small shop in Rue Attarine, Essaouira with a selection of artifacts, jewellery, pottery, silverware and more that have been sourced by Chama, the delightful owner. What's so unusual about this place is (a) that Charma is a woman running her own business in a male dominated market, (b) all the prices are marked and by comparison with similar quality are incredibly reasonable and (c) the service is outstanding.. The experience at Tilila is so good you will manage to buy just about everything you need from the one place

Getting there :

ImageThe road from Agadir to Essaouria along the coast is really beautiful. You can reach here by rental car or by grand taxi. Essaouria is linked to big cities (eg Marrakech) with ATM buses.
